Water Level Monitoring and Control System

Project Description

This project involves designing an automated water level monitoring and control system utilizing programmable Cloud PLCs. The system architecture consists of three key components:

1. Pump Room

In the pump room, a Cloud PLC with LoRa connectivity is installed to control the pump operations. The motor is connected to the Cloud PLC through a relay module, which allows the PLC to switch the motor ON or OFF based on commands received from the office room PLC.

2. Office Room

A Cloud PLC with Wi-Fi connectivity is installed in the office room. This PLC acts as the central control unit, receiving sensor data from the overhead tank PLC, analyzing the water pressure levels, and sending commands to the pump room PLC for water flow control. A Power Supply Monitor is also fixed in this room, connected to the local Wi-Fi network, and it sends data to an IoT server.

3. Overhead Tank

A Cloud PLC, equipped with a water pressure sensor and a solenoid valve, is installed at the overhead tank. The solenoid valve is connected to the relay output of the PLC, allowing it to be controlled for water flow regulation. The digital water pressure sensor is connected to the PLC via an RS485 interface, enabling accurate real-time monitoring of tank pressure levels, which are then transmitted to the office room PLC.

System Work-flow

  • The overhead tank PLC continuously monitors water pressure and sends the data to the office room PLC via LoRa.
  • When the water pressure drops below 30%, the office room PLC sends a command to the pump room PLC to activate the pump.
  • Simultaneously, the solenoid valve at the overhead tank opens to allow water flow into the tank.
  • Once the water level in the tank reaches 70%, the solenoid valve closes, and the office room PLC sends a command to stop the pump.
  • This ensures efficient water level control and prevents wastage or overflow.
  • All Cloud PLCs in the system are programmable and communicate seamlessly to ensure reliable operation.
